Those Making Amends

  • 11:41 None of the webcomics I read updates on Sundays. I am thinking about having my next project update on Sundays. #
  • 16:57 Can I get 3 comics done by the end of today? Let's see! #
  • 21:48 I think my thermometer is broken. It says I have a temp of 95.5F. #

I want to reset my body clock.

I want to redo everything that revolves around or involves me. This is idle talk. This is wishful thinking. This is everything but the lack of trying on my part.

Ugh.

3:33 AM.

Met with Galen at IHOP for writing critiques and crepes. The story shall need some work, but overall, not too bad. I've started sketching the illustrations for it. There's going to be 40! That's a lot, even though they are all small.

Because of a link I got to watching this:

Got curious, checked out the similar videos, and stumbled upon this:

WHAT THE FUCK JAPAN

I think I've found a new anime to watch.

  • 22:07 I never have to use the GiMP again thanks to this: www.pixlr.com Sorry GiMP-lovers, but the GiMP's interface is just too stupid for me. #
  • 00:21 @jebbrwocky It certainly does take a big steaming dump on your attention span. #

12/25/09 10:33 pm - [info]rosalarian - What I got for Christmas...

...ended up being socks, and a screwdriver/tool set. I totally predicted that.

I also got an iPod shuffle, which means I can finally join the 21st century. It is pink, but I am going to exchange it for an orange one. My tool set is pink, too. What's with all the pink, Mom?

This was the best Christmas ever, because I pretty much avoided every single tradition. Yes, I got presents today, but I didn't ask for any.

I think this whole holiday needs to tone itself down, and stop being so annoying.

Now I am going to go find a place to download the Doctor Who Christmas special.

12/24/09 11:52 pm - [info]rosalarian - What I SHOULD get for Christmas.

You know how sometimes, you'll get presents that aren't actually things you asked for, but that are pretty damn useful? Like socks, or a screwdriver. These aren't glamorous presents. These aren't the kind that make your eyes light up, fill with tears, and you silently mouth "thank you" to whoever gave it to you. But these are things you need, and dammit, you'll end up using them more than the things you actually asked for.

Someone needs to find a way to bottle patience, and then give me a case of it for Christmas. I'll look at it and think "Great. Now I can satisfied with the slow-paced drudgery of the day, and the moronic douchebags who take forever in the grocery store line."

But I know if I used it, I would find myself thankful I'd gotten it. I think people around me would be happy I'd gotten it, too.

Incidentally, I asked for socks and a screwdriver set for Christmas. So I will probably be very satisfied tomorrow morning, while the rest of you will be sad that another year passed without a pony.

12/24/09 10:54 pm - [info]rosalarian - tawdy short story

Just wrote an 8,500-word short story today. It is a detective story, based in the Lesbian Pirates universe, and featuring a couple characters who've been featured before. It is tawdry and salacious and filled with forbidden passions.

I'm planning to illustrate the story, and I'll put it up as a donation incentive. Right now, it's 17 pages typed on letter-sized paper with no illustrations. So adding illustrations and putting it on the smaller, comic-book-sized paper, this thing will easily be 40 pages. That's like a small novel. Very small novel.

I might try writing a few more and make a collection.

Writing short stories is good for the writer's soul. Writing long, sweeping epics or serials takes forever, and sometimes, it just feels good to get something done.

Speaking of having things done, I have a new Lesbian Pirates page done, finally, but it has taken over an hour so far just to save. I check back on it periodically, but mostly, I've either been writing or reading my Scott Pilgrim books today, waiting for the computer to do something.

I think within an hour it should be up.

But then, I just jinxed myself by saying that.

Browsing through some galleries today, I found out the cover to "Satan Was a Lesbian" was actually recycled from another book!

Dang.

  • 10:41 The worst website design ever: www.belladesoto.us O_O #
  • 10:58 Apparently, in the design world, "GLBT" means "Gray, Light, and Bad Type". #
  • 16:25 @jessfink My dad does that same thing. #
  • 16:28 Why is the Volvo logo a male sign? If anything, it should be a female sign because it sounds like "vulva". #

12/23/09 10:29 pm - [info]rosalarian

Tried so hard to get a new Lesbian Pirates page done tonight. I am 95% finished, but that last 5% is proving to be too much for my computer to handle, so I'll try to finish it tomorrow morning and post it tomorrow afternoon.

In the meantime, I am thinking up short stories to write for donation incentives so I can just get a new computer.

My current computer reminds me very much of a cat. You can tell it to do something, but it'll just stare at you for a long time, then go and do its own thing for twenty minutes until it just coincidentally happens to do what you wanted it to do. Only the computer doesn't look cute, or play with string, so it is only the bad part of cats.

12/23/09 05:19 pm - [info]rosalarian - Then and now: summary of big events.

Beginning of 2009:

Worked 20 hours per week, at night.
Lived in an apartment.
Had a girlfriend.
Lived with Galen.
Had never been blackmailed.
Lived with Columbus and Vinnie, but did not own a cat.
Updated YU+ME and Lesbian Pirates 3 days a week.
Wrote the comics as I drew them.
Got angry a lot.
Started getting sick a lot.
Had long, long red hair.
Never used Twitter. Thought it was stupid.

End of 2009:

Work 40 hours per week, during the day.
Own a house.
No girlfriend.
No other roommates.
Have been blackmailed.
Now own a cat, Scrambles.
Updating YU+ME 5 days a week (and Lesbian Pirates rather infrequently. -_-)
Script the comics before I draw them.
Not as angry anymore.
Still get sick a lot.
Have short, almost-black hair.
I use Twitter all the time, but I still think it's stupid. :P

  • 11:02 FINALLY got another LPFOS page inked. Should hopefully be able to color it tonight. #
  • 11:02 I really do feel awful about how infrequently I am updating that comic. :/ #
  • 11:11 @fesworks Yes, it didn't hurt that that was the page people have been seeing for two weeks. :D #
  • 11:13 @rosalarian In retrospect, that really WAS more meatballs than one person should consume. How do you not have gout? #
  • 11:51 The Christmas season is a lot less awful now that I no longer celebrate it. #
  • 13:11 The most recent episode of Dollhouse reminds me a LOT of YU+ME #
  • 14:16 Everyone who writes fiction will at some point write a vampire story. #
  • 14:17 FACT: Only .03% of vampire stories are ever actually good. #
  • 14:17 I have written a few vampire stories through the years, but I kept them to myself, because they aren't anything special. #
  • 14:18 So the answer to "Do you want to read my vampire story?" is going to be a resounding "no" from me. #
  • 15:01 @ferretthimself Oh, something being good and something being profitable are two different things. :P But good on you getting it published. #
  • 15:40 Congrats @boxbrown for reaching his goal just now! #
  • 16:23 @Yamino: RE: ketchup vampire: That would end up being a biography of me... #
  • 17:19 @Yamino: Oh, you so need to write this now. It's not pathetic if you admit it's a Mary Sue from the beginning! XD #
  • 17:50 twitpic.com/upgmr - @yamino What just happened? THIS just happened. #

An addendum to "Webcomic Readers' Etiquette":

Don't block the ads.

So you didn't want to/ couldn't donate money to the artist who provided you with hours of free entertainment. That's okay. But when you block the ads, (or worse, use an aggregating site that strips out everything but the comic), you are essentially taking money from the artist.

It's been rare that I've seen a webcomic with crazy noisy seizure-inducing flash ads. You can handle having some ads in your peripheral vision as you look at the day's page. It's not a lot of trouble for you, it doesn't cost you anything, but it helps the artist out a lot.

12/21/09 05:20 pm - [info]rosalarian - hockey love

This graphic was for a story about one of these guys replacing the other on the team, but the layout reminds me of a romance novel. #32 longs for #42, who is blissfully unaware of his affections.

12/21/09 04:01 pm - [info]rosalarian - Biographies

For the year of 2010, I want to read at least 20 biographies. Not autobiographies. I love those, but they're written completely differently. I want to read the life of a person who did something cool enough that other people took the time to research and write about them.

Any recommendations?
